Modern Warfare’s skill-based matchmaking is being badly exploited

The cat’s out of the bag and running rampant through the Call of Duty community. Skill-based matchmaking (SBMM) has been all but confirmed to be present in Modern Warfare. Players are beginning to exploit the system in order to receive easier public match lobbies. How are players doing this? Well, we’re about to show you.

Players find a way around skill-based matchmaking

The way skill-based matchmaking works is the game will match you up with other players of similar skill. While this isn’t a confirmed fact in Modern Warfare, this is generally how it works. Although, there are other factors at play in Modern Warfare, such as a system that benefits you if you purchase microtransactions.

In any case, the average player will be matched up with other players around their skill level. This takes into account your kill/death ratio, kills per game, etc. So, while this does help out the below-average player, it punishes those high KDR users.

While not down to a science, there is a way around this system. Some above-average players simply want easier lobbies after being matched up with “tryhards” for their entire play session. One way to do this is to play a match and see which player finished on the bottom of the leaderboard. When you exit the match, join up on that specific player from your “Recent Players” list, and chances are you’ll end up in an easier lobby.

In addition to this, there is a multitude of screenshots going around featuring below-average players. What some are doing is adding these players on Xbox or PSN and joining up on them whenever they hop into a match. Since they are of lower skill, their lobby will also have players on the below-average side.

This game is so broken that you can exploit the lobbies so easily lol https://t.co/DrmaO9DtE7

As soon as skill-based matchmaking was mentioned in Modern Warfare, this kind of hack was going to happen. Infinity Ward needs to get on top of this issue or their entire SBMM system will start to fall apart.
